File Locker is a Microsoft Windows based file encryption program.
It has the ability to encrypt multiple files at a time, and can also
run "in the background," letting you do other things in Windows
while it is encrypting files.

This program is shareware. Register it by sending $10 to:

                         Rodney M. Savard
                      4507 South Kent Street
                     Kennewick, WA 99337-4510

For registering, you will receive a registration number that will
uncripple this shareware version plus all future versions. Once
registered, File Locker will no longer display the registration
information that shows when you run the program.

INSTRUCTIONS ON USE:
====================

Run the File Locker program either by using the FILE-RUN command
in Program Manager, by double clicking on the LOCK.EXE file in
File Manager, or by double clicking on the File Locker icon in
Program Manager. (For instructions on setting up an icon in
Program Manager for the File Locker program, see your Windows
documentation.)

When you run the program, you will first see a registration
information screen. (Unless you have registered your copy of File
Locker.) After five seconds, two buttons will appear: one labeled
"I'll Do It Later..." and the other labeled "Register Now!".
Pressing the button "I'll Do It Later..." will take you to the next
screen--the File Locker program. If you press "Register Now!", you
will be prompted for a registration number. (You will receive a
registration number after registering File Locker. [see above])

   Encrypting a File
   -----------------

To encrypt a file, type the name of the file that you want to
encrypt into the SOURCE FILES text box. Then click on the
   "LOCK FILES" button.

You will now be prompted for a locking phrase (or password).
You can pick any password you want, as long as it's not more
than 10 characters. Type the password into the LOCKING PHRASE
text box. (Question marks will appear as you type it in.) Now
verify that you typed in the password correctly by entering the
same password into the VERIFY PHRASE text box. If the passwords
in both text boxes match, you can press the button labeled
"Encrypt" to encrypt the file. If the passwords in both text
boxes do NOT match, then you will not be able to press the
   "Encrypt" button.

File Locker will now encrypt the file, showing the percent
completion in the Bar at the bottom of the File Locker screen.

NOTE: This program is relatively slow in encrypting and decrypting
files. If you want to encrypt a rather large file, I recommend
turning on the "Background Execution" option. (Described below.)
This will allow you to do other things in Windows while File Locker
   is busy encrypting the file.

   Decrypting a File
   -----------------

This is done in the same way you Encrypt a file. First type
in the name of the encrypted file in the SOURCE FILES text box.
Next, click on the UNLOCK FILES button.

You will now be prompted for the phrase (password) that was used
to encrypt the file. You MUST enter the same password before
File Locker will decrypt the file. (NOTE: The password is not
case sensitive, so File Locker considers "PASSWORD" and "PassWord"
to be the same.) When you finish typing the password into the
LOCKING PHRASE text box, press the "Decrypt" button.

If the password you typed in and the password that was used to
encrypt the file match, File Locker will decrypt the file, showing
the percent completion in the Bar at the bottom of the File Locker
   screen.

   Other Options
   -------------

   - You may encrypt more than one file at a time by typing each
filename, separated by a space, in the SOURCE FILES text box.
For example, if you wanted to encrypt the file C:\TEST.TXT and
C:\FILES\REPORT.WP, you would type the following into the
     SOURCE FILES text box:

     c:\test.txt c:\files\report.wp

You may encrypt up to 200 files at a time. When you press
ENCRYPT FILES to encrypt multiple files, you will only be
prompted for a password ONCE. That password will be used to
encrypt all of the files in the SOURCE FILES text box.

You may also decrypt multiple files the same way you encrypt
multiple files. You will only be prompted for a password ONCE,
and that password will be used to decrypt all of the files in
     the SOURCE FILES text box.

   - You may specify wildcards in the SOURCE FILES text box.
For example, to encrypt all of the files in the C:\TEMP directory
that have the extension TXT, you would type the following into
     the SOURCE FILES text box:

     c:\temp\*.txt

This method can be used for decrypting files as well.

   - Pressing the button labeled "Tree..." will bring up a directory
tree. You may select the file you want to encrypt/decrypt on
this screen. This form works similar to other File Open Dialog
boxes in Windows, except that you can select more than one file.

To select more than one file in the directory tree, hold down
the CTRL key while selecting the file names.

Pressing "OK" (or ENTER) will return you to File Locker and
place the file names you selected into the SOURCE FILES text box.

Pressing "Cancel" (or ESC) will return you to File Locker without
placing the file names you selected into the SOURCE FILES text box.

Pressing "Scan Directory" will search the current directory for
encrypted files. This feature is only availabel when you
     register File Locker.

   - By clicking on the OPTIONS menu in File Locker, you can configure
File Locker whether or not it should run in the background, and
how it should notify you when it finishes encrypting/decrypting
     files.

When "Background Execution" is checked, File Locker will let you
do other things in Windows while it is busy encrypting/decrypting
files. If "Minimize on OK" is checked, File Locker will be
reduced to an icon when it starts encrypting/decrypting files.
If "Restore on Completion" is checked, File Locker will be
restored (un-Minimized) when it finishes encrypting/decrypting
     a file.

Selecting "Notify on Completion", you can tell File Locker how
you want to be notified when it's finished encrypting/decrypting
files. If "Do Not Notify" is checked, File Locker will do
nothing to tell you that it's finished encrypting/decrypting
files. If "Notify With Beep" is checked, File Locker will cause
a System Beep when it finishes encrypting/decrypting files. If
"Notify With Dialog" is checked, File Locker will cause a Dialog
Box to pop up, telling you that File Locker finished encrypting
     or decrypting files.

   - The configuration of File Locker is saved when you end the
program. The configuration is kept in a file named "LOCK.INI"
     located in your WINDOWS directory.

DOS Based File Locker (DOSLOCK.EXE):
====================================

This DOS based File Locker program can be run when you are in DOS.
This is useful if you want to decrypt or encrypt a file without having
to start Windows.

To run this program, type DOSLOCK at the DOS prompt. (NOTE: This
version of DOSLOCK does NOT accept any command-line parameters.)
You will be asked whether you want to (1) encrypt a file, (2) decrypt
a file, or (3) exit. Type your choice and press ENTER.

Now enter the file name of the file you want to encrypt or decrypt and
press ENTER. (NOTE: You CANNOT list more than one file or use wildcards
when specifying the file name.)

Now enter the locking password and press ENTER. (NOTE: The password
will NOT be echoed onto the screen as you type it in.) Enter the
password again to verify that you typed it in correctly, and then
press ENTER. (NOTE: If you are decrypting a file, you will not be
asked to verify the password.)

The file will now be locked or unlocked.
