WAVSORTER 3.0 -- EVALUATION COPY
October 5, 1993

To most easily view this document, open it in Notepad and click
on the little "up" arrow in the upper right-hand corner to
maximize the window.

**If there is a file named DEFAULT.INI included in the
zipped file you downloaded, delete DEFAULT.INI. It
contains configuration information for the computer
belonging to the person who uploaded the zipped file
and so will not perform properly on your computer.
WavSorter will create a DEFAULT.INI file containing
your preferences the first time you exit WavSorter.

**If you obtained WavSorter from a shareware vendor,
either as an individual program or as part of a
shareware collection, you should know that the author
has not received any compensation for the distribution
or use of WavSorter. If you like WavSorter and find it
useful, please register it. When you register, you will
receive WavSorter Pro, which has many more features and
  enhancements than this evaluation version.

**If you experience any difficulties installing or using
WavSorter, read the TECH_1.WRI and TECH_2.WRI files
included with WavSorter. These files contain answers to
commonly asked technical support questions. If you do not
find the answer you need, contact Shepherd Software either
by email on CompuServe (71664,2255) or by U.S. Postal mail
  at the following address:
	Shepherd Software

INCLUDED FILES

The following files are included in the evaluation
version of WavSorter:

	wseval.exe
	ws.hlp
	file_id.diz
	readme.txt (this file)
	tech_1.wri
	tech_2.wri
	cmdialog.vbx
	mci.vbx
	threed.vbx

If any files are missing, please notify the sysop of the
BBS from which you obtained the zipped file, or notify
Jim Shepherd on CompuServe (71664,2255), or Shepherd
Software at the address given at the end of this
document. Thanks

IMPORTANT NOTES

1. Feel free to upload WavSorter to your favorite BBS's
(in fact, I hope you will). However, please be sure
to include all the files listed above so that people
who download WavSorter can use it to its fullest
   capabilities.

2. If you do upload WavSorter, PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR
DEFAULT.INI FILE. This file is created the first time
you use WavSorter and is unique to your preferences.

3. If you've used previous evaluation versions of WavSorter,
you may notice that this evaluation version (3.0) contains
fewer features. This was done for two reasons: 1) to keep
   the size (and download time) of the evaluation version down;
and 2) to streamline and simplify the installation process.

However, the registered version, WavSorter Pro, still contains
all of the features and enhancements included in previous
versions (as well as some additional refinements). WavSorter Pro
also includes an installation program which makes installing or
   upgrading WavSorter Pro extremely easy.

3. WavSorter includes a feature called Magic Target Help
which allows you to easily call up information and help
on objects and menu items by clicking on them when Magic
Target Help is turned on. Not all objects in Visual Basic
respond to clicking, however, so while almost all objects
in WavSorter's main window respond to Magic Target Help,
there are a few which do not.

4. If you would like to use the "jumps" (green text) in the
Magic Target Help popup windows, turn on Help by choosing
the Contents item on the Help Menu before turning on
Magic Target Help (this is optional and is only necessary
if you want to use the "jumps").

5. Directories, files, and folders all drag and drop. If
you're not sure whether or not an object in the main
window responds to drag and drop, drag something over
it and watch the OpLight for information.

6. If you want to get started right away, there's an item on
the Help Menu called "Getting Started" which will provide
you with the minimum information necessary to begin using
   WavSorter.

INSTALLATION

**WavSorter will not run properly with VBRUN100.DLL or VBRUN200.DLL;
you must have VBRUN300.DLL in your Windows "system" directory in
order to use WavSorter. Also, you must have versions of the .vbx
files with dates of 4/28/93 or later (these are included with
  WavSorter).

You install WavSorter by doing the following:

1. Create a directory for WavSorter and name it something
appropriate like "wavsortr", or whatever name you want.

2. Copy or move the following files to your WavSorter
   directory:

	wseval.exe
	ws.hlp
	tech_1.wri
	tech_2.wri
	file_id.diz
	readme.txt

3. Copy or move the following files to your Windows "system"
   directory (e.g., c:\windows\system):

	cmdialog.vbx
	mci.vbx
	threed.vbx

**Note that these .vbx files are included in MicroSoft Visual
Basic 3.0, both the Standard and Professional editions.
If you have either of these programs, you already have
copies of those .vbx's on your computer. Since MicroSoft
has been known to "slipstream" newer versions of its
programs without telling anyone, it is always good
practice to compare the dates of the .vbx's included
in WavSorter with the dates of the same .vbx's you
already have on your system so you won't overwrite a
newer version of the .vbx. This step is, of course,
optional and doesn't affect WavSorter in any way but it's
still a good idea to do it.

4. Create a group and/or program item for WavSorter in
Program Manager (or your favorite Program Manager
substitute, if you use one) just like you would for
   any program.

5. Double-click on the WavSorter icon to start WavSorter.

UN-INSTALL

I hope you will like using WavSorter, but if you decide to
remove it from your computer, do the following:

1. Delete all the files from your WavSorter directory.

2. Remove (delete) your WavSorter directory.

3. Delete the following files from your Windows "system"
   directory:

	cmdialog.vbx
	mci.vbx
	threed.vbx

**Note: Do not delete these .vbx files if you have MicroSoft
Visual Basic, Standard or Professional editions since
you need these files for yourself. Also, do not delete
these files if they are needed by another Visual Basic
application. I know this is probably self-evident but it's
easy to make mistakes in the heat of the moment.
