Top Ten Technical Support calls Quicken for Windows.

1)	Q: Quickfill. "When I type in the register, a payee's name is filled
in, and it's a different name from the Quickfill list than the one I
select."

A:This issue affects some customers with certain system
configurations and Quicken Version 3. We have improved this feature
in the Update, located elsewhere in this section. Search on the
keyword Update. Instructions for updating your Quicken 3 for Windows
is included.

2)	Q: When I print my checks, the cents are cut off on the right side.

A: Use the fine adjustment in Version 3 (page 53 in the user's
guide) to move all the information over alittle. We have improved
this feature in the Update, located elsewhere in this section.
Search on the keyword Update. Instructions for updating your Quicken
3 for Windows is included.

3)	Q: Check printing. General questions or problems.

A: If you have questions or trouble printing checks, please consult
the Printing Troubleshooting Guide elsewhere in this library. Search
words: Printing.

4)	Q: Quickfill takes too long to fill in the payee's name and other
information after I type in the first couple characters.

A: This problem affects certain customers based on memory
configuration. Improved Quickfill redraw speed in the Update,
available in this library.

5)	Q: My check printer settings lost. "I align my checks, and the test
works fine. When I go to print my real checks, the settings are all
lost."

A: There is possibly some minor damage to the WPR.DAT file This file
can be found in the QUICKENW directory on your hard disk. It holds
the printer settings in Quicken 3, and can occasionally become
damaged as part of normal computer use. fortunately, it's very easy
to fix. You may exit completely out of Quicken, rename this file to
"WPR.XAT" Start Quicken, and try again. This usually solves the
problem. If the problem persists, you may wish to try a different
driver, or other troubleshooting methods. More detailed instructions
can be found in the Troubleshooting Kit available for download
elsewhere in this section. Searchword: Troubleshooting.

6)	Q: Questions regarding possible damaged data.

A: If Quicken on your computer is behaving in any way that suggests
you may have damaged data, please refer to one of the downloadable
troubleshooting guides found elsewhere in this section. If you have
any questions after reading that, you may need to call Intuit
Technical Support.

7)	Q: My list of payees that drops down when I'm in the register is too
long in Version 3. It recalls all the payees in my register. How can
I make this list smaller?

A: You can limit the dropdown list in Version 3 to show only a list
of payees of memorized transactions. (Refer to your user's guide
index under "memorize" to see how to memorize a transaction) Once
you have memorized a transaction, you can go to the Edit menu in
Quicken, and select Preferences. On the Preferences screen, select
Quickfill. There should be an option there called QuickFill from the
Register. If you UNCHECK this option, Quicken will only fill in
items from the memorized list. Also uncheck "Automemorize", if you
do not want every item in your register to be added to the list.

If you do not have and option called "QuickFill from the Register"
under Quickfill preferences, you need to download the Update of
Quicken version 3 for Windows. This Updater is found elsewhere in
this section.

8)	Q: General Protection Fault at startup of Quicken.

A: See the GPF Troubleshooting Guide elsewhere in this section for
finding the cause of a General Protection Fault.

9)	Q: File management - general.

A: For tips on how to backup, restore, import-export, or find files
on your system, see our list of downloadable documents elsewhere in
this section, or search the message discussions for key words
connected with your question.

10)Q: Printing checks: On my dot matrix printer, checks need to be
loaded so far down inside my printer to align them properly, that it
jams the printer. For other printing problems, see the Printer
Troubleshooting guide elsewhere in this library.

A: This problem occurs with certain printers with Version 3 of
Quicken for Windows, and is repaired by the Update. This Update can
be downloaded, and is located elsewhere in this section of the
Forum.

11)Q: General questions about features in Quicken 3 for Windows.

12)A: Check the Library and Message sections of this Forum called:
General. These areas contain complete product descriptions and press
releases related to all Intuit products.

13)Q: Investments - Portfolio View. My Portfolio View doesn't fit on
the screen. The window goes off the edge, out of view when I go into
it.

A: Problem relates to font size chosen. You can change the screen
font to a smaller size. Go to the Edit menu, select Preferences. Go
to Fonts. If you change to Default or a smaller font size this will
redraw the window. This window size is repaired in the new Update of
Quicken for Windows. You can Download the Update found elsewhere in
this section.

14)Q: "How can I import data from another program into Quicken?"

A: Quicken uses an import file format called .QIF (Quicken
Interchange Format). You can import any data that is formatted as a
QIF file. A description of how information is stored in a QIF file
can be found in Quicken for Windows 3 online Help. Search under
Import.

Intuit has one conversion utility, for transferring Managing Your
Money Version 9 files to this QIF format. This conversion is
available for download elsewhere in this library. Also, you may wish
to check this and other Quicken sections of the Library for user-
uploaded utilities that may help you in this area. Remember: user-
uploaded utilities are not fully tested by Intuit, and we suggest
you make backups before trying them.

15)Q: "How should I set up Windows?"

A: If you are getting Windows errors when trying to run Quicken on
your computer, please see the Troubleshooting Kit found elsewhere in
this Library, for specific steps in solving your problem. If you
have general Windows questions, please refer to a Windows forum on
this service, or contact Microsoft directly.

16)Q: Error messages.

A: From time to time under certain conditions, Quicken displays
error messages. These can be caused by a variety of factors -
including hardware, Windows, a damaged program file, or corrupted
data. The most common error screens encountered are discussed in the
Troubleshooting Kit found elsewhere in this library.

17)Q: Transactions: "How do I enter a specific transaction?"

A: Please refer to your User's Guide (page 17), other documents
listed in this library, and discussions in the Messages section for
further information on how to enter a certain type of transaction.

18)Q: "I get an error message during installation."

A: There are a few things which can cause error messages during
installation. Occasionally, the Install program conflicts with
specific hardware configurations, and it is possible an install disk
could be damaged. The best way to test both of these things is to
copy both install disks to a temporary directory, and try installing
from there. Here are the steps to do this from DOS. Note: these
directions are for a default installation on a C: drive. If you are
installing to a different drive or under unusual hardware
conditions, please edit the instructions below, according to your
needs:

1.	Go to a DOS prompt, by clicking on the MS DOS prompt from the
Program manager, or exiting from Windows.
2.	Go to the c: prompt, or the drive letter where you wish to
install Quicken.
3.	Type "CD\" and press the enter key.
4.	Type "MD QTEMP" and press enter.
5.	Put the first install disk into the A: or B: drive on your
system.
6.	type "COPY A:*.* QTEMP" or type "COPY B:*.* QTEMP" depending
on the install disk drive letter.
7.	When the first disk is finished, insert the next one and press
the F3 key to repeat the last line you typed, and press Enter.
8.	Go back into Windows. At the main Windows screen select the
File menu, and then Run. At the command line, type
"C:\QTEMP\INSTALL.EXE" and press return.
9.	If you get the same error message as before, see the
Troubleshooting Kit elsewhere in this section, for possible
ways to reconfigure Windows temporarily, to let Install work.
If that doesn't help you may need to post a message or email
the SYSOP of this forum for further support.
10.When you have installed correctly, you can delete the Temp
file.

If you received an error message while trying to copy the disks,
contact Intuit Technical Support or return your program to the place
where you bought it for a new copy of the disks. You may also wish
to try copying two different disks to the QTEMP directory. If you
get the same error message using a different set of disks, it may be
a hardware problem in the floppy drive system on your computer.

*)Q:"Where is my data? Quicken can't find it."

A: If you're having locating your data, you can do the following:
1.	Go into the Program Manager and run the File Manager program.
2.	Go to the File menu in File Manager, and select Search.
3.	On the Search For line, type: "*.qdt".
4.	On the Starting With Directory line, type "C:\", unless you
think your file is on a different disk. Enter the appropriate
drive letter. Enter an "X" in the box that says "Search all
Subdirectories." Then press enter.
5.	This will create a list of Quicken data files, and show the
path (where they are located on the disk). Write down this
path. (i.e.: c:\Quicken5\QDATA.QDT.) This tells you the exact
drive and directory where your data file is, and the name of
your file (i.e.: in the previous example, the file name is
QDATA).
6.	Go back into Quicken. Select File and Open. You can use the
mouse to navigate between the directory folders on the screen.
When you open the folder mentioned in the path found as above,
your files will be listed in the square box on the left side
of the screen.

20:	Q: I print a sample Partial page check and the alignment is
portrait instead of landscape. How can I adjust this?

A: Print a real check. The sample check does not print in
	landscape mode.
