Enclosed are a list of symptoms and common fixes for many printing
problems encountered by users in Quicken for Windows 3. consulting this
list may save you a call to Intuit Technical Support. This document is
broken into two sections: DOT MATRIX printers and LASER printers.

DOT MATRIX PRINTERS

SYMPTOM: When printing (checks or reports) the printing is not correct.
(e.g.: Alignment, unusual characters, blank pages)

THINGS TO CHECK:
1.	Printer driver. Quicken for Windows 3 works better with certain
Microsoft Windows printer drivers over others. This can be true even
if your printer works fine with other programs or earlier versions of
Quicken. You may want to try install one of the printer drivers
listed below, as an additional one on your system:

		TYPE OF PRINTER SUGGESTED DRIVER
		Epson compatible
		24 Pin: EPSON LQ-510
		9 Pin: Epson FX-80

		IBM Compatible
		24 Pin: IBM Proprinter X24
		9 Pin: IBM Proprinter

		Generic,
Daisy wheel, other	Epson LQ-570 ESC P2

a.	To add a new printer driver, exit Quicken. From the Program
Manager, open the Main group. Double click on the Control Panel,
and open the Printers icon. Click on the Add button. From the
bottom list, choose the driver you wish to add to your list of
installed printers, and double click on that driver or click
"Install."

b.	The screen may prompt you to insert and install disk from your
original set of Microsoft Windows installation disks. After
inserting the disk, follow the instructions on screen, and the new
driver will be installed in your system. You do not have to make
the new driver the default driver. This will be set in Quicken as
described below, and only Quicken will use this driver.

c.	Go into Quicken. Select File, and Printer Setup. You may select
either "Check Printer Setup" or "Report / Graph Printer Setup",
depending on your need. At the "Report" or "Check Printer Setup
screen, you will see your old printer driver listed. Click on the
down arrow next to the name, and a list will appear, showing the
driver installed above. Select that printer, and click "OK" to
save the settings.

2.	Rename the WPR.DAT file. This file - located in the QUICKENW
directory on your hard drive - holds the printer settings. such as
alignment and fonts. Occasionally, this file can incur some minor
damage, causing the printer to behave abnormally. A damaged WPR.DAT
file is usually the suspect when the printer was originally working
correctly in Quicken Version 3, and then stopped working. To rename:

a. Run File Manager, without Quicken running: Go to the File menu and
Exit from Quicken. From the Main group of your Windows Program
Manager, select File Manager.

b.	Open the directory where the Quicken program is: Click on the
drive wheeler Quicken is installed, and select the QUICKENW
directory (or whatever you have given the Directory where Quicken
for Windows 3 is installed)

c.	Rename the file: Highlight the file called WPR.DAT from the list
on the right side of the screen. Go to the File menu in Program
Manager, and select rename. A box will appear saying: "Rename
WPR.DAT to: " Type in the name WPR.XAT This will disable the old
settings file.

b. Quicken automatically creates a new WPR.DAT file, once the old one
has been renamed. After renaming, you will have no printer
settings. Therefore, you may then need to re-select the
appropriate printer under Printer Setup (as in step 1 above), and
run a new alignment for your checks. This should save your
alignment and font settings now. If you are still having a
problem, Try selecting the Microsoft printer driver LQ570 ESC P2
as described in step 1 above.

SYMPTOM: The "cents" (i.e.: $50.xx) do not print on the right side of a
check.

THINGS TO TRY: Use the fine adjustment in Version 3 (page 53 in the
user's guide) to move all the information over alittle on the printed
check. We have improved this feature in the Update, located elsewhere in
this section. Search on the keyword UPDATE. Instructions for updating
your Quicken 3 for Windows included.

SYMPTOM: Checks need to be loaded too far down inside of printer in
order to align them properly when printing.

THINGS TO TRY: This problem occurs with certain printers with Version 3
of Quicken for Windows, and is repaired in the Update. This Update can
be downloaded, and used to update your version 3 of Quicken for Windows.
It is located elsewhere in the Quicken/Windows Library of this Forum.

LASER PRINTERS:

SYMPTOM: When printing a test check by clicking on the button: TEST from
the check alignment screen in Quicken, Partial pages will not print in
landscape mode.

THINGS TO TRY: Print a real check. Quicken the landscape mode is not
available for TEST checks.

SYMPTOM: On an HP LaserJet, partial pages of checks will not print.

THINGS TO TRY: Turn off Print Manager. Print Manager is a print job que-
ing software that comes with MS Windows, and allows the processing of
multiple print jobs in the background. Quicken Version 3 and the
LaserJet drivers have an occasional conflict. By turning off Print
Manager as outline below, your printing will usually occur faster, as
well as eliminating the printing problem.

1.	Exit from Quicken.
2.	From the Main group in your Windows Program Manager, open the Control
Panel.
3. Click on the Printers icon. In the Printers screen, there is a box in
the lower left corner for Print Manager. Remove the X from this box.
4. Close the Control Panel windows, and restart Quicken.

If this does not fix the problem, you may need a later version of the
printer driver for your printer. Contact Hewlett Packard or Microsoft
for a free copy of the latest driver.
