NASA' s MOBILE TEACHER RESOURCE CENTER (MTRC)

NASA's Mobile Teacher Resource Center (MTRC) unites Federal and private sector
resources in a program to provide exciting new math, science and technology
educational materials to teachers and students throughout the country.

The MTRC is a NASA Teacher Resource Center (TRC) on wheels. For several years,
NASA has operated fixed facilities and TRC's at nine field centers. These
facilities are stocked with free NASA math, science and technology resource
materials designed for grades kindergarten12. Visiting teachers can use TRC
equipment to duplicate NASA educational videos, slide sets, and software.
TRC's have proven to be a valuable asset to teachers residing in the vicinity
of NASA Centers, but a large number of math and science teachers throughout the
country do not have the convenience of a TRC located within reasonable
traveling distance. Being a mobile unit, the MTRC can provide special services
to such teachers in communities distant from NASA Center TRC's and regional
TRC's. Since the introduction of the MTRC, 515 workshops have been conducted
for 6,180 teachers representing 26 states. Many educators have toured the MTRC
at such events as the National Science Teachers Association National
Convention, the U.S. Space Foundation Symposium, and the Public Service
Recognition Week in Washington, DC.

MOBILE TEACHER RESOURCE CENTER SPONSORS

Vital to the success of the MTRC is a unique arrangement that allows private
industry to provide funding and other support to Project LASER'S Mobile Teacher
Resource Center.

Together the corporate sponsors listed below have pledged more than 1.2 million
dollars toward the Project LASER MTRC. NASA is pleased with the support
provided by industry in the development of the MTRC concept and stands ready to
form additional partnerships to expand this effective and critically needed
distribution system for educational materials.
