The Face of God 12-10-92
---------------

Long ago a shepherd boy
Out in the fields at night,
While watching o'er his sleeping flock,
Beheld a wondrous sight.

The air was still and quiet
And the nighttime sky had cleared
When suddenly a brightness shone
As an angel of God appeared.

The boy and all the others there
Trembled before this sight
As God's glory shone around them
They stood frozen from the fright.

With calm and reassuring words
The angel spoke to them
Offering news of great importance
Of the birth in Bethlehem.

"A Savior today is born to you
For He is Christ the Lord.
In a manger you will find Him
As a sign of God's accord.

And as the words were spoken
The heavens opened wide
With multitudes of angels
Joining with him on each side.

Giving glory to the Lord Most High
And bringing peace to men,
They bestowed the favor of the Lord
Upon each one of them.

And when the angels left them
The shepherds went to see
This babe born in Bethlehem
That filled their hearts with glee.

The shepherd boy was with them
When they finally found the place;
And as he saw the baby there
He looked upon His face.

No ordinary babe was this
For He was sent from above;
The Creator now a creature
In the expression of His love.

And as the boy drew nearer still
His smile grew ever broad.
For no man had ever gazed before
Into the living face of God.

And as this season comes again
We must keep this thought in mind
The reason that we celebrate
Is this gift to all mankind.

It's true that Jesus came that day
To free us from our sin
But we must as that shepherd boy
Seek and turn to Him.

For if when we hear the news
We don't obey and yield
We'd be like that shepherd boy
If he'd stayed out in the field.
