                             The Electronic Song Book

PURPOSE:
MUSIC is a ShareWare program designed to keep track of song lyrics and
chords. It only runs under MS-DOS (or a DOS shell under Windows or OS/2).
Although it is written to help guitar players, it can be useful to others.
See the "summary.txt" file in this directory for a summary of MUSIC features.

SHAREWARE:
Please read REGISTER.TXT (inside MUSICZIP.EXE) for info about the ShareWare
concept and registration information. As a ShareWare program, you are free
to try MUSIC and give copies to anyone you want (as long as you give them the
full MUSICZIP.EXE file). If you decide to use MUSIC then please register it.
Registration can be as low as $10 and you will be placed on the MUSIC mailing
list for future updates and miscellaneous news (not a junk-mail list).

INSTALLATION:
All the MUSIC files are located in MUSICZIP.EXE -- a self-extracting ZIP
  program.

  1) Create a directory which you want to place the MUSIC program. This will
also be the best place to put your main "song drawer". A good place to
put it would be C:\MUSIC (only because that's where mine is :)
                           MKDIR C:\MUSIC
  2) Place the MUSICZIP.EXE program in that directory
                           COPY MUSICZIP.EXE C:\MUSIC
  3) Go into that directory and run MUSICZIP.EXE then delete it
                           C:
                           CD \MUSIC
                           MUSICZIP
                           DEL MUSICZIP.EXE

MUSICZIP.EXE is a self-extracting ZIP file which, when run, will give birth
  to the following files...

MUSIC.EXE - The main MUSIC program.
  MAKEDWR.EXE - A stand-alone utility to create/repair MUSIC.DWR.
REGISTER.TXT - MUSIC Registration information and mail-in form.
MUSICDOC.PS - MUSIC manual all prettied up for PostScript printers.
MUSICDOC.PCL - Same document for standard HP LaserJet compatible printers.
UPDATES.TXT - Lists the mods made to MUSIC for each new version.
  MUSIC.DWR - A small "song drawer" file.
  MUSIC.SL - A small "selection lists" file.
*.MUS - A few non-Copyrighted songs for you to look at.

  4) Print the manual:
      a) If you have a standard HP Laserjet II laser printer (or compatible)
then enter the following (assuming it is connected to LPT1)...
                COPY MUSICDOC.PCL LPT1:
      b) If you have a PostScript printer then enter the following...
                COPY MUSICDOC.PS LPT1:
      c) If you don't have either then you can get the printed manual by
registering MUSIC with the payment that includes the manual. See
REGISTER.TXT for information on how to do this.
  5) If you were able to print the manual then please read the section under
"Quick Tour" and "Registration Info". If you were unable to print the
manual then print out the registration info text file and read it...
                COPY REGISTER.TXT LPT1:
  6) Give MUSIC a test drive (I strongly suggest doing the "Quick Tour"
section of the manual if you were able to print it). Enter...
                MUSIC

SONG FILES:
Due to Copyright legal issues I am only releasing a couple of songs at this
time since I don't have many songs that are not (c). This means you're on
your own with entering songs. I did include, however, a love song I wrote
for my wife (call me sentimental).

THANKS:
My thanks goes out to Jason Cathcart for allowing me to use his site to
distribute MUSIC. And a HUGE thanks to my wife for letting me neglect her
for the several weeks it took to get MUSIC ready for release (see her memo
in the MUSIC manual under Registration Info).

I sure hope MUSIC helps you. Have fun...
