                       with Front Door Mailer, BGFAX
                       and Spitfire BBS.
                      ================================

                                                      May 29,1994
                                              Revised September 9,1994

This setup seems to work with the Zoom 28. ZFX and ZFP modems
and the problem I was having with it not hanging up after
connecting with certain modems. I have been tinkering with
this for a while and so far this is the string that seems to
 work best.

Run your terminal program and type: AT&F
 This restores factory defaults.

 Then type:
 ATM0&C1&D3&S1&T5S11=50S7=70&W0

 Init-1 ATZ|
 Init-2 AT%C2%E3\L1+FCR=1;FDCC=1,5,0,2,0,0,0,0|
 Init-3 ATM0S7=200S95=127+FLID="203 732-5746"|
                                ^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This is my fax # (put yours here)

 Front Door modem Commands:

 Return Online ~AT0|
 Offhook ~~ATM0H1|
 Onhook ATH0|
 Down ~~ATM0H1|

 Front Door answer control setup:
 Force Answer AT+FAA=1;A|

The Down commands will take the modem offhook and stay offhook
whenever Front Door exits. (Version FD 2.12sw)

  What these commands mean:

M0 - Turns modem speaker off.
(Almost off. I can still faintly hear it)

&C1 - RLSD (DCD) Follows remote carrier.

&D3 - DTR drop causes modem to do soft reset &Y setting
determines which NVRAM profile is loaded.

&T5 - Ignores remote modem request for digital loopback.
This definitely helped the no hangup problem.

S95=127 - Give extended connect message responses.
Data compression, error correction and protocol.
I'll take as much info as possible.

S7=70 - Remote carrier wait time in seconds.
(I had to kick it up to 200 for BGFAXin the init string)

  %C2 - Enables V.42bis compression.
Without it I got better transfer speeds, but the
screen refreshes were too jerky so I think you
           are better off using it.

%E3 - Enables monitoring, retraining and fast hangup.
I tried %E2 but this worked best.

/L1 - Uses interactive block mode for MNP connection
           Increased transfer speed.

&W0 - Writes the initialization to NVRAM.
